Departing from home

Hello Everyone,

First of all, this is called Amma and Popee's Trip instead of Gerry and Pete's Trip because Amma and Popee are the names our grandkids have given us.

We plan to post information, web links, pictures and videos about our travels as we make our way across the country. Check back whenever you want to find out where we have been and what we and our two Dalmatians; Rosey and Simon, have been doing on this great adventure of ours. If you have a Google email account you will be able to view this blog any time. If you do not have a Google account, you will be invited to be a guest and that will be valid for 30 days. At the end of 30 days, I plan to "invite" you again so you will not need to create a Google account. If anyone has an alternative email address that you would prefer I use, just send it to us via email:   gpryder@tangoware.com

If you want to make a comment to us on the blog, there will be a link for comments at the end of the page. If no one has made any comments on that post, it will say no comments. Just click where it says no comments and you will be able to make a comment.

So here we go with our first blog entry...

After packing up and moving out of both elementary schools, I began the task of packing the motorhome for our trip. I had a little more than a week and was up many nights until 10:00 or 11:00 working on all the details. When you are going to be gone for four months, it is a lot more than just packing clothes and food. Pete had been working for weeks on all of the mechanical aspects to make sure the motorhome was in tiptop shape. He also washed and waxed the whole motorhome. There are lots of things to get in order on the home front as well.

We departed on our trip on Monday, July 1, and we have not had very good luck with Internet service since then so that is why this is a bit late getting out to everybody. The weather was rainy for a couple of days after we left but that wasn't any different than what was happening in New Hampshire. Our first campground in Colchester, VT (just a hop, skip and a jump from Burlington) had lots of problems with RVs, camper trailers and pick-up trucks getting stuck in the mud at campsites. It was a really nice campground, but the ground was so saturated with rainwater that the weight of the vehicles was more than the ground could handle. There weren’t any campers on either side of us or behind us because the ground was too soft and muddy. We felt like we were on the biggest campsite in the world. We were very fortunate to be on a site that held up pretty well to all of the rain. When we were ready to leave the campground, staff members from the campground put boards on the ground for us to drive over to get out of our site. While visiting this area we went to the Lake Champlain Chocolate Factory (http://www.lakechamplainchocolates.com/about-us/visit-our-factory/) and learned about the way they produce their yummy chocolates. We received some free samples, but that wasn't enough to satisfy our sweet tooth. We purchased quite a few different chocolates and each and every one has been delicious.

Next stop... Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
